NBA Picks Against the Spread – March 3, 2020

NBA Picks Against the Spread for Tuesday, March 3, 2020

Another profitable day, going 3-2 with our NBA Picks Against the Spread on Monday night. In the should of, would of department, it could have been 4-1 if the Dallas Mavericks remembered how to play offense in the third quarter. Luka Doncic and the Mavs were owned by Denzel Valentine and the Bulls – did we really just type that? – outscored 17-33 coming out of the locker room –ugh!

We’ve got eight games on the slate tonight with plays against the numbers in six. Tonight’s theme, lots of points, road warriors and big-time underdogs.

SAN ANTONIO SPURS (-4) at CHARLOTTE HORNETS Total 211
It’s a game of attrition or the best of bad basketball. The Spurs are 10-20 away from the Alamo and the Hornets suck at home at 9-19. However, San Antonio is a game better than .500 against the spread on the road compared to Charlotte’s home record on 12-15 versus the number. It makes it tough to take either team against the line, but we do like one side of the total.
The PLAY: OVER 211

Picks Against the Spread WinnerBROOKLYN NETS at BOSTON CELTICS (-6.5) Total 218.5
Boston is a beast in Beantown, winning 23 of 29 and covering 18 of 29 with a push. The Nets should make it tough on the Celts to get the W on their home court as Brooklyn is three games above five-hundred on the road and 14-15 ATS. Although our model leans heavily towards Boston, the score is not large enough to play either team. Ah, but once again we see value in the over/under.
The PLAY: OVER 218.5

Picks Against the Spread WinnerLOS ANGELES CLIPPERS (-4.5) at OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER Total 228.5
This is the best match up of the night. The Clippers have won six of their last 10 and the Thunder are 7-3 and their last 10. Vegas gives the edge to LA with their second-best Western Conference record. We agree with Sin City’s number crunchers and see the Clippers pulling away late in a hard-fought W.
The PLAY: CLIPPERS -4.5

Picks Against the Spread WinnerMINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES at NEW ORLEANS PELICANS (-11) Total 247
This one smells like a letdown game for New Orleans. They are coming off a tough loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in a nationally televised Sunday night game. Zion Williamson and crew are fighting for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference and should add one to the win column, but Minnesota makes a game of it.
The PLAY: TIMBERWOLVES +11

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES at NEW ORLEANS PELICANS (-11.5) Total 247
The PLAY: UNDER 247

Picks Against the Spread WinnerGOLDEN STATE WARRIORS at DENVER NUGGETS (-16) Total 218.5
Who wins this game really isn’t in question. The Nuggets should put the Warriors away and get some late rest for the heavy minutes guys. Denver is 24-7 at home and the Warriors are an awful 6-24 away from home. Mismatch on paper. However, Golden State is 16-14 against the spread on the road because they get soooooo many points. They are that bad. Once again, Steve – I don’t know what Chinese communism is – Kerr and crew are the beneficiaries of their badness according to our projections.
The PLAY: WARRIORS +16

Picks Against the Spread WinnerTORONTO RAPTORS (-3.5) at PHOENIX SUNS Total 225.5
After being on a tear, Canada’s best has lost two in a row; albeit, to the Milwaukee Buck and at Denver. They’ll be itching to get back to their winning ways in the desert tonight, provided they didn’t enjoy the sunny warm weather a little too much. The Suns should be accommodating as they are just 11-20 ATS at home.
The PLAY: RAPTORS (-3.5)

TORONTO RAPTORS (-4.5) at PHOENIX SUNS Total 225.5
The PLAY: UNDER 225.5

Although these are not plays, our models leans:
Charlotte Hornets +4
Boston Celtics -6.5
LA Clippers/OKC OVER 227.5
GS/Denver UNDER 218.5
Washington Wizards +5.5 at Sacramento and UNDER 234.5
We aren’t touching the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers game with so many injuries.
